The Nine-Month Sanctuary of the Mother Goddess
Located at the midway point of the yatra (approx. 6 km from Katra), Ardhkuwari represents the sacred cave where Goddess Vaishnavi meditated for nine months in the posture of an unborn child before confronting Bhaironath. The narrow cave passage is known as Garbhjun (womb).
Navigating the Garbhjun Waiting Token System
- Collect Token Immediately Upon Arrival: Before taking a bath or meal, go to the Shrine Board token window at Ardhkuwari and get your group token slip.
- Understanding Wait Times: Due to the extremely narrow cave opening where yatris crawl one by one, waiting queues frequently range from 8 to 24 hours during high season.
- Smart Yatra Strategy: Collect your token at Ardhkuwari, proceed upward to the Holy Bhawan for Mata's main Darshan and Bhairon Temple, and return to Ardhkuwari on the downward journey when your token group number is called on the electronic announcement boards.
- Accommodation at Ardhkuwari: Clean dormitory halls and private rooms are managed by SMVDSB for pilgrims waiting for their turn.
