How to Reach Katra & Vaishno Devi

Katra is the base town for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra. It is connected directly by Indian Railways via the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station, with premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi. Alternatively, pilgrims arrive at Jammu Tawi Railway Station (JAT) or Jammu Airport (IXJ), situated about 50 km from Katra. The Sacred Trekking Route

The pilgrimage begins at Ban Ganga (or the eco-friendly alternative track at Tarakote Marg). En route, devotees pass through Charan Paduka (where Mata left her footprint), Ardhkuwari Temple (the holy womb cave of Garbhjoon), and Sanjichhat before reaching the divine sanctum of Bhawan where the sacred Pindies of Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati reside. To conclude the yatra, pilgrims visit Bhairon Baba Temple, accessible via a convenient passenger ropeway cable car.

The shrine is open 24 hours every day of the year. The weather is most pleasant from March to June (spring and summer) and September to November (autumn). The nine days of Chaitra and Sharad Navratri witness grand floral decorations and devotional festivities. Winter months (December to February) experience cold weather and occasional snowfall on Bhawan and Bhairon hills, creating a mesmerizing mystical landscape.
