Fixed Government Rates for Porter and Animal Services

To prevent the exploitation of pilgrims, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board strictly fixes the hire tariffs for ponies, palkis (palanquins carried by four men), and pithus (baggage and child porters).

Official Tariff Guidelines (SMVDSB Approved)

  • Pony (Horse) One-Way Katra to Bhawan: Approx. INR 1,250 to 1,400.
  • Pithu (Porter up to 15 kg baggage): Approx. INR 500 to 600 from Katra to Bhawan.
  • Palki (4-Bearer Palanquin for Elderly): Approx. INR 4,000 to 4,500 depending on passenger weight class.
  • Bhawan to Bhairon Ghati Pony: Approx. INR 450 to 550.

Operational Golden Rule for Yatris

Never hire unbadged handlers operating outside the gates. Always hire from the prepaid computerized counters at Ban Ganga or Banganga New Bridge, where you receive an official stamped booking slip stating the handler's ID number, name, and exact destination.
