The Mystical Cave of Lord Shiva in Reasi
Located in Ransoo village in the Reasi district, approximately 75 km from Katra, Shiv Khori (The Cave of Shiva) is a renowned holy cave shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is famous for its natural limestone formation featuring a 4-foot swayambhu Shiva Lingam upon which milk-like lime water drips continuously from natural stalactites.
How to Plan a Seamless Shiv Khori Excursion
- Transit from Katra: 2 to 2.5 hours by private taxi through scenic Shiwalik hills via Pouni and Bharakh.
- Trek from Ransoo Base Camp: A gentle 3.5 km trek along a scenic mountain brook. Ponies, palkis, and wooden walking sticks are available for hire.
- Cave Dimensions: The cave spans over 150 meters in length and features twin chambers. The outer chamber is spacious, while the inner chamber requires bending to witness the holy lingam.
- Best Combined Itinerary: Dedicate Day 1 to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, rest at Katra on Day 2 morning, and take a full-day excursion to Shiv Khori and Baba Dhansar waterfall in the afternoon.
